This information will give you an overview of what you can expect from our clinic and Osteopathy consultations.
However, this information does not dispense the direct contact with our Osteopaths, where we are pleased to be able to match your expectations.
Our clinic and professionals want to provide an integrated approach where there is solidarity, quality, innovation and health education.
We are proud to treat equally all persons, regardless of age, gender, religion, race or sexual orientation.
If you are a patient who arrives for the first time or isn´t consulted by us for over 6months, your consultation will have an approximate length of 70 to 90 minutes.
The follow-up consultations (also known as follow-ups or maintenance treatment), have an approximate duration of 45 to 60 minutes.
The Osteopath will implement a complete clinical history (also known as, initial interview or anamnesis), where includes the recent and passed medical history, specific and general health state, such as the thorough knowledge of its current complaint, knowing all the signs and symptoms (semiology).
- Provide a professional service;
- Demonstrate the various treatment options and agree to some treatment goals with the patient;
- Provide information about your treatment program;
- Explain all the specific treatments;
- Respect their rights, dignity, privacy, feelings and cultural customs;
- Respect the confidentiality of your professional relationship;
- Communicate with your doctor, if necessary.
For an examination, you will be asked to stay in your underwear (when necessary) and always if the patient agrees.
Thereby, enables the Osteopath to make a global and specific assessment, considering the relevance of the different parts of the body, associated with the present complaints.
You can always use a tap if desired and more comfortable. If at any time you don’t feel comfortable, do not hesitate to inform us.
Still within the examination, you may be asked to perform some movements. The Osteopath may have to mobilize some structures in your body (such as the joints) in order to assess, for example, its function and mobility. Depending on your individual case, it may be necessary to run additional tests, such as blood pressure measurement or test your reflexes (etc.).
As soon as the Osteopath has completed the examination, he explains to the patient all essential parameters, where will include the Osteopathic diagnosis. The patient will be informed of the cause of his symptoms (or complaints) and how the Osteopath may intervene to solve this situation. All the treatment options, the purposes and objectives are explained to the patient, as these same treatments can exert the effects needed to reverse the essential patient complaints.
In certain diagnoses, patients may need to be forwarded to his GP. In this situation, and where applicable, we are available to do so, writing a letter where we will refer all patient details, necessary for the GP to help the patient by knowing the evaluation of your Osteopath.
There are different techniques of treatment in Osteopathy, such as different types of treatment that the Osteopaths can use. In this way, the treatment is different for each patient, but can include techniques such as: myofascial therapy, joint mobilization, stretching, harmonic techniques, among many other therapeutic approaches. Sometimes, when this is necessary, we mobilize a joint using a high velocity with low amplitude movement (Osteopathic manipulation), in order to restore the function of this joint.
Eventually, it may be suggested some specific exercises diet and running some postural work, always adjusted to your case.
If you have any questions before or after your treatment, please ask us the questions necessary. If at any time you have any questions, please don’t hesitate and talk to us.
